Below you’ll find our reviews of what we believe to be the best youth outfield gloves on the market in 2016. If you want a broader selection, head on over to our youth outfield glove comparison page.
The Rawlings Playmaker is a solid outfield glove for beginners. While older, more advanced payers may want to elsewhere, if you’re just starting out and want an affordable but quality option, this is your glove.
The Playmaker is a big but manageable youth glove at 12.5.” It has a basket web making catching the ball easy. The 80% factory/20% player break-in means you won’t be spending weeks playing catch before you’re glove’s ready for primetime action. It also has an adjustable Velcro strap on the wrist, allowing players to get the perfect fit. The deep pocket and flexible webbing makes it easy to squeeze, ensuring fewer dropped balls.
However, its price tag does come with its drawbacks. Being as cheap as it is means some sacrificing in the quality of materials. While it has a 4.6/5 rating with 20 customer reviews on Amazon, the major complaint is that some of the materials are synthetic, not full grain leather all around. Further, if you are a serious player who will have a very active season, the glove’s lifespan might not be what you’re looking for, as cheaper materials means more likely to break down.
Many people, however, have been very satisfied with the Playmaker. It’s extremely affordable and a great beginner option, is nearly game ready out of the box, and has the ability to fit almost any youth player’s hand. While not 100% leather, it’s still a sturdy and reliable glove that, depending on use, will last you for a long time.
The Rawlings Playmaker is an excellent choice for young players starting their baseball careers and is still a viable option for more experienced players as well.
Rawlings strikes again with their Gold Glove Gamer Series, which is an affordable yet high quality option for youth and adult players. While not technically designed for youth players, this glove is a viable option for older youth players.
The 12.75” glove may be too big for some of the younger players, but once you think you’re ready, this is a must have. The glove is made of soft, full grain leather, complete with an all leather lining and Tennessee tanned pro laces. It has a deep pocket and trapeze web, which is the most popular style used by the pros. Often called the ‘six finger,’ the trapeze webbing shifts the pocket towards the center of the glove, making it easier to secure the ball. There’s also a lace-less finger holster with an index finger pad if you prefer wearing your glove that way. Break in time will not be immediate, however, as the glove has a 50% factory/50% player break in rating. But that just means that you’ll be able to shape the glove more to your liking and that the leather will be long lasting. It also comes in both a left and right-handed model.
You’ll be hard pressed to find anything to criticize about this glove. It boasts a 4.8/5 rating on Amazon with 20 reviews, and has mostly 5 stars everywhere else online. The professional pattern and complete leather makeup has impressed many customers, as the glove offers superb durability at a ridiculously low price of $78. The deep pocket and trapeze webbing will make any player feel like a pro and will have you making web gems in no time.
The Rawlings GG Gamer has it all. It has a low price, a fantastic design, and is made from high quality materials. This is a great choice for players who want to take their game to the next level.
